True Discipleship...

I'm only six weeks away from turning 40 and I've been a christian since I was nine.  I've been raised in church all my life and love the study of God's Word.  I've taught Sunday School to various ages and have used many forms of literature, resources, and curricula.  Yet, this week I had a new revelation.  It has been huge to me.  And I must share.....

As I mentioned, I love bible study.  I love preparing to teach and I love the anticipation of new knowledge about Jesus just waiting to be discovered.  I envision the new concepts and bits of scripture enveloping those in the class and transforming the lives of those studying with me.  I have been dogmatic about using good resources, solid in the Truth.  All of that has not changed.  What has changed is my concept of discipleship.

I still love bible study.  I love sitting around a room with others, bibles open, and learning more about our Savior.  I want to know more from His Word about how to please Him and glorify Him with my daily living.   None of that has changed.  But what I am realizing is that most lives aren't changed in a classroom setting.  Even though I believe in things like Sunday School and formal bible study, I am learning that true discipleship often occurs when one person forms a relationship with another person and begins to bring Truth to life in front of them.  This happens most often when one person loves another person.  Then, from that new friendship or loving relationship, the Word of God is lived in front of them, talked about with them, or studied together.
